God's Steps

I've really enjoyed the last year to really help to understand God's purpose for our lives.  I can't say I have my whole life's path figured out or any major epiphany but just the concept of better knowing and appreciating why we're instructed to and what it truly means to follow Christ.

The infamous poem Footprints has been rolling in my mind for the last 6 years now.  I knew it growing up, but after High School in my years of  (we'll just call it exploration) it crossed my path completely unexpectedly and I read through it again.  And it was in that moment about 6 years ago, that I knew all too well that I wasn't where I belonged in life.  And I was done leading my own life, and I ached for God to take the wheel.  This week that same poem was a suggestion I had for a dear friend.  If you don't know it well already or haven't read it in a while, you should re-visit that.  It is an incredible message.  I know I've seen many beautiful versions since!

The concept and message is that we aren't the one leading this dance.  We aren't the one steering the ship.  We are never alone even in the deepest, hardest times of life!  As you make it through life and look back, there will be places where there was only one set of steps in the sand.

Does that mean that we were flying solo??  Although we may feel alone at times, that is NOT the case!  The spots in life, however many there are, or however long each stretch lasts, those are where Jesus picked us up to carry us and those are his steps in the sand!

Therefore God's steps in our lives are SO important and special and such an amazing blessing to be a part of.  Knowing that fact, just in facing life daily, makes things a little easier!  Knowing that whatever happens will be fine because it isn't myself leading this life.

Doesn't guarantee we'll make the right decisions throughout our life, but wherever our steps lead us, God will never be far!  Even when we walk away from him, he's still there and hungers to have us close to him.  As I well know from my days of "exploration"...

I look at it like this...  If I didn't have someone else guiding this ship life in general would just be insanely harder and stressful in every way shape and form!!  The unknown of every day would be terrifying.  Unemployment, pregnancy, housing market, current economy, fighting depression, concern for our kids, loss of loved ones, all very real parts of life...  But knowing that HE is in control is an amazing blessing in our life!
